CHS Reads, an Interactive Website for Readers

Posted by Teresita Moldogo on May 29, 2012 at 9:20 PM

For the past few years, the worldwide web has gradually engrossed the international status quo with its ample contributions to various fields. The “one click away” mode of internet has drawn attention from the population. Vast majority of the youth, mainly constituted by students, continues to enjoy the advantages of internet up-to-date.

In this internet generation, however, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and other websites have gradually displaced books in terms of the number of current users. The continuous rise of internet users, however, is inevitable as technology is expected to continue dominating the globe. Nonetheless the worldwide web can be a very convenient mode of promoting different skills including reading.

Through the benefits offered by technology, a team of students led by their English teacher Mrs. Teresita Moldogo administers an interactive website entitled “CHS Reads” (http://chsreads.webs.com/) – an open and engaging site that welcomes everyone, especially students, to join the discussions with topics concerning reading. Initially, the site was intended for the students of Commonwealth High School (hence the site’s name) to enable its students interact with one another. Members of the website are encouraged to share their insights on some books they’ve read and/or suggest brilliant books that can provide priceless wisdom to other book-lovers.

The website is also convenient source of must-read book titles in various genres and some of their information, acting as a virtual library. There are also various widgets such as “word for the day”, “verse for the day” and “quotation for the day”. Visitors are also welcome to contact the site’s administrators for feedbacks or insights.

The next time you surf the net, why not try this fun and exciting website to find out some good reads? Be a member and interact with your fellow book-lovers in this website intended for readers like you!

A BOOK TO REMEMBER
We all know that Christmas is the most important occasion in a family because every Christmas, all the members of the family. From the oldest to the youngest member of the family should come and celebrate.
Our English teacher ask us to read pocketbook, but unfortunately I don?t have any pocketbooks to read because all the books I have is gone when we transferred here, so I borrow a book from my classmate Clemente Ibal, our English class president. And the book entitles ?Classic stories for Girls?.
This book has five stories these are the ?Little Women? by Louisa M. Alcott, ?What Katy Did? by Susan Coolidge, ?Black Beauty? by Anna Sewell, ?The Secret Garden? by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and ?Heidi? by Johanna Spyri. But the story that got my attention is the ?Little Woman? by Louisa M. Alcott that tell us the real essence of Christmas.
It tells us that even without those gifts we can celebrate Christmas with our family together, because Christmas is not just about gifts but about family. And as I read this story, I remember our Christmas three years ago in Bulacan.
It was just a week or two before Christmas came,we are all excited because we will receive a lot of gifts from our parents. But we receive a unexpected call from my father in Saudi and says that he will not celebrate Christmas with us here in the Philippines because their company had delayed their salary, and he can?t afford to buy us gifts, the only money he had is only for his transportation.
Me and little siblings can?t accept that we will not receive gifts from them because we?ve grown up in receiving gifts from them during Christmas. My mother got mad on us because she say that we should worry because our father can?t celebrate Christmas with us not in the reason that we will not receive gifts from them.
At first,my little siblings can?t understand what my mother is saying because they are in a very young age that time. But as the oldest child I tried to understand and tried to explain them what our mother wanna tell us. Then one day,I voluntarily called up my father, I told him that we miss him so much that even he had no gifts to give us,the most important is that we will celebrate Christmas together as a family. My father was so touched and promise that he will go home before Christmas. I happily tell this to my mother she is very happy on what I did.
A day before Christmas,as my father promised he went home and we celebrate Christmas together and full of happiness even without those gifts.
At the end of the story,it will tell us that ?celebrating Christmas together with our family are better than receiving gifts.? Many Filipino families can celebrate Christmas together with their families even without gifts.
All I want to say is celebrate all the occasions and maybe the every seconds of your life with your family because our family are the people who can understand, love and protect us so much.

"Love by Forgiving"
(Bookreport)
Do not talk to the strangers. This what we commonly hear from our parents when were just a child as a way to teach and protect us from others that we hadn't know yet. Well,it isn't bad to di not trust a person that is unacquainted to us but we should all know that sometimes,we should consider a stranger as a friend for it is a way of dealing with others and not all strangers are thinking of bad to do to you.
Just like the short story I have read in the book of English Arts for 1st year Highschool that was entitled "The Stranger" by I.V. Mallari that is one of the character in the story.
It's theme was "Love by Forgiving".
This story is all about his new classmate named David in Elementary who was the stranger in their barrio and they have suspicion on him for they don't know his background yet except his name and as a teacher's pet for he could answer their teacher?s question much better than they could.
They just start accepting him when they found out that he's generous and entertaining. And they totally considered him as truly one of them when he save Pendong's life who was about to be drowed in the sea and after this extraordinary thing he have done,he was called as a hero.
In this kind of treatment that he receive from his classmates he didn't become angry of them, instead he just continue being nice to them.
This story was very inspiring for it tried to deliver to us that in winning friend's trust,we should know to wait and forgive, even they treatened us in the way that we didn't deserve.

?Agatha, the Avid Fan?

This Book Report I made is presented to my English Teacher, Mrs. Teresita B. Moldogo, she is a very good teacher in English. She assigned us to read a book. The title of the book I red is ??Agatha, the Avid Fan?? the author of this book is W.M Lewis; this book contains 128 pages including all pages of the book. This book was published during year 2004, the publisher of this book is Precious Pages Corporation. I decided to read this book because I was so curious about its beautiful title. I also want to know if what the contents are and on how the author delivers each scene in the story to its readers. My best friend recommended me to read this book because she said that this book contains a beautiful story.

The main characters in the story are Agatha, Venice and Dale. Dale is a handsome actor and model. Aside of his career He is also a beloved boyfriend of Venice. He loves Venice with all of his heart and devotion for her. He is willing to sacrifice everything for the girl who made his life complete. She believes that his key to success is no other than Venice. Venice is a very pretty girl. They both feel the same way for each other. Agatha is an avid fan of Dale, she is the twin sister of Venice but she doesn?t know that Venice is her sister.

The other characters in the story are Senora Leandra and Loreta. Senora Leandra is a very rich person, she is also the step mother of Venice. She adopts Venice when she was 5 years old. She treated Venice as real daughter, love her and care for her. She gave everything to Venice. Loreta is the maid of Senora Leandra.

The type of this book is a Romantic Book. This book was set at Quezon City, Philippines in the 20th century. This book also contains violent actions.

This is the summary of the story entitled ?? Agatha the Avid Fan ??. Dale is a handsome actor and model, he has a girl friend named Venice. Venice is a pretty and a nice girl; she was adapted by Senora Leandra. Senora Leandra treated Venice like a princess, she gave everything needs of Venice. One day when Venice died dale was so sad, he doesn?t move on of what happened. But after a year he saw Agatha on his mall show he was so shocked because he think that Agatha is Venice. Agatha is an avid fan of dale she is the lost twin sister of Venice. One day Dale decided to know Agatha better. A month ago Dale fall in love to Agatha, but he doesn?t know if he love Agatha because of her attitude or he love her because Agatha is similar to Venice. But after a year he realized that he love Agatha not because of her similarities to Venice but he love Agatha because of her attitude. A month ago Agatha discovered that she is the lost twin sister of Venice. Suddenly Agatha became the girlfriend of dale, after a year dale decided to marry Agatha and they live happily ever after. I like the story because it ends in a sweet ending. I learned that every person has a difference and similarities from each other but everything has a purpose. I recommended this book to others so that they can understand if what the true meaning of love is.
